Hello, guys! I screencapped Maxton Hall- a German, 6 episode Romance drama that I've been seeing a lot on my other social media. It's quite cliche, Enemies-to-lovers type and I honestly didn't expect to like it so much! The characters were really good and the actors did their part so well, I absolutely loved it! There are 92 screencaps in the link below the pictures here for you to take and use in any way you like.

Date: 2024-06-03 12:50 pm (UTC)I started watching it yesterday (2 eps in), and i find the characters more *gnashes teeth* than *chef's kiss* tbh? :)
I mean, the female lead is perfect, but the male lead is so incurably spoiled and evil that I just can't believe he's got the brains to realize how very very wrong his father is, just because he's suddenly attracted to Ruby? It doesn't really compute.
And I must admit I'm having a bit of an uncanny valley problem with everything being English except the dialogue. :D It's interesting, for sure, though. I haven't watched anything like that in ages. I used to watch a lot of German tv as a kid, but not in the last twenty years. I have to get used to it again. :D
Last but not least, I do like the acting and the production values etc etc *a lot*. It all looks really good. Despite all my caveats, I am going to try to get through the rest of it.

Date: 2024-06-05 07:24 am (UTC)It is very predictable and dramatic and I usually avoid young people romance like the plague, but somehow this one got me. I think the shortness of the season contributed to it a lot too! XD

I don't, I love it! :D So there was really no way around that one. :D
I'm through the whole thing now (and it held up my Bridgerton rewatch significantly O_O).
I don't really know how to classify it. The latter half was better than the first half, but James's father was so needlessly evil in places, it didn't really make me very hopeful for James breaking the mold. At first I thought it very responsible of him to want to protect Ruby - and, as he says, he has no chance to protect them from his father. none. But then he just jumps into bed with her and follows her naive notions of "the world is your oyster"? Come on!
OK, it's YA, and teens make stupid decisions, but still. /o\
I'm currently about halfway through the book, and I must say I like the book much better so far. It's not perfect, but I find it quite well written (the English translation loses a bit of the liveliness, but it's not too bad either). There are some things that the show apparently made worse on purpose. E.g. James's father constantly insulting Ruby to her face - he never does that (in the first half that I've read). Or Ruby being so impressed by money and beauty and fashion - she isn't that in the book at all (and I found it very out of character on the show).
I'm likely going to write up a review when I'm done with both.
